Terms of Service

Last updated: June 4, 2026

Welcome to FlowState. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the rules for using FlowState, an AI-powered homework planning and study coaching app built for the Milken Community School community. By using FlowState, you agree to these Terms.

FlowState is a student-built project created by Eli Afshani, a Milken student, and is not currently a registered company. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use FlowState.

1. Who Can Use FlowState

FlowState is for students, faculty, and parents connected to Milken Community School. Students and faculty sign in with their @milkenschool.org account or an email code. Parents sign in with any email and can only view a linked child's data after the child accepts the link.

Age: Students under 13 (such as some 6th and 7th graders) may use FlowState only when the school has authorized their use under COPPA's school consent exception. By allowing a student to use FlowState, the school provides this consent on behalf of parents.

2. What FlowState Does

FlowState helps you organize assignments, plan study time, and learn with Flowy, an AI study assistant. It pulls your assignments from Blackbaud (read-only), generates study plans, and creates flashcards and quizzes. FlowState is a study tool, not a replacement for your teachers, your schoolwork, or your own effort.

3. Academic Integrity

FlowState is built to help you learn, not to cheat. Flowy is designed to coach, explain, and guide you, and it will not simply give you direct answers to homework, tests, or quizzes.

You agree to use FlowState in line with Milken's academic honesty policies. You are responsible for following your school's rules about acceptable help on assignments. Using FlowState to cheat, plagiarize, or break your school's academic integrity rules is not allowed and is your responsibility, not FlowState's.

Attempts to trick or "jailbreak" Flowy into giving direct answers or bypassing its safety rules are not allowed and may be flagged and logged.

4. Acceptable Use

When using FlowState, you agree not to:

  • Use it to cheat or break your school's academic rules
  • Try to access other people's accounts or data
  • Try to break, hack, overload, or disrupt the service
  • Post or share harmful, hateful, sexual, violent, or illegal content
  • Attempt to bypass Flowy's safety filters or content moderation
  • Use FlowState for anything other than its intended educational purpose

We may suspend or remove accounts that break these rules.

5. The Flowy AI Assistant

Flowy is powered by AI and can sometimes be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Always double-check important information and use your own judgment. Flowy is not a substitute for advice from a teacher, counselor, doctor, or other qualified adult. In personal mode, Flowy can offer general support but is not a crisis service or a mental health professional. If you are in danger or crisis, talk to a trusted adult or contact emergency services.

6. Your Content

You keep ownership of what you put into FlowState (your messages, goals, and notes). You give FlowState permission to use that content only to operate the service for you, such as sending it to the AI to generate a response. FlowState does not claim ownership of your work and does not sell your content.

7. The Parent Portal

Parents can link to a child's account only after the child accepts the request. Linked parents get read-only access to the child's assignments, study plans, and chat history. Parents cannot edit or delete the child's data. If you are a student, you can see and remove parent links at any time.

8. Privacy

Your use of FlowState is also covered by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and how we protect it. By using FlowState, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

9. Service Availability

FlowState is a student project offered free of charge and may change, pause, or stop at any time. We do not guarantee the service will always be available, error-free, or that data will never be lost. We will make reasonable efforts to keep it running and to protect your data.

10. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

FlowState is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law. We do not promise that FlowState will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, FlowState, its operator (Eli Afshani), and his family are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of FlowState, including lost data, missed assignments, or reliance on AI-generated content. FlowState is a study aid, and you remain responsible for your own schoolwork and decisions.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as FlowState grows or as laws change. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, let users know. Continuing to use FlowState after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute relating to FlowState or these Terms will be handled in Los Angeles County, California.
